Free Implant Consultation in Kitchener: What Happens
By Dr. Tina Ramirez, DDS, general dentist at Dr. Ramirez Aesthetic Dentistry, Kitchener
Booking a consultation for dental implants can feel like a big step. Many people put it off because they are not sure what will happen, whether they will be pushed into treatment, or what it might cost.
This article explains what a free implant consultation at our Kitchener office looks like, step by step. You will know what to bring, what we check, what questions to ask and what you leave with.
Before You Arrive
You can book by calling (519) 748-2524 or using the Book Online form on our contact page. When you book, let us know it is about implants, so we set aside the right time.
It helps to bring:
- A list of your medications and any health conditions
- Your dental insurance details, if you have coverage
- Any denture or partial you wear now
- Recent X-rays from another dentist, if you have them
- Your questions, written down
You are welcome to bring a partner or family member. A second set of ears helps when you are taking in new information.
Step 1: We Listen First
The visit starts with a conversation. We want to understand what brought you in. That might be a single missing tooth, a loose bridge, a denture that moves, or several teeth that cannot be saved.
We ask what matters most to you. For some people, it is chewing comfortably. For others, it is how their smile looks, or not having to remove teeth at night. Your answers shape which options we talk about.
Step 2: We Review Your Health History
Implants are placed in the jawbone, so your general health matters. We ask about medical conditions, medications and habits such as smoking. Some conditions and medications affect healing, and we need to know about them to plan safely.
This is a normal part of the conversation. It helps us give you accurate information about whether implants suit you.
Step 3: We Look at Your Mouth
We examine the area where teeth are missing or failing. We check your gums, your remaining teeth and your bite. If you wear a denture, we look at how it fits and where it moves.
We also look at the teeth next to the gap. Their condition can affect whether an implant, a bridge or another option makes the most sense.
Step 4: We Talk Through Your Options
Depending on what we find, we may discuss:
- A single implant with a crown, to replace one missing tooth
- An implant-supported bridge , to replace several teeth in a row
- An implant-supported denture that snaps onto implants. See implant dentures.
- A fixed full arch on four implants. See All-on-4 dental implants.
- Options without implants , such as a conventional bridge or denture
We explain the pros and cons of each in plain language. If implants are not a good fit for you right now, we will tell you and explain why.
Step 5: We Explain Planning and Imaging
If implants look like a possibility, the next stage is detailed planning. That usually starts with a CBCT scan, a 3D X-ray of your jaw. It shows bone height and width, and the position of nerves and sinuses.
We use the scan to plan where each implant should go and at what angle. On the day of surgery, we place implants using the X-Guide navigation system, which gives real-time 3D guidance and follows the plan built from your scan. Our PrimePrint 3D printer can produce items such as surgical guides and models from your digital plan.
At the consultation, we explain what this planning stage involves and what it costs before anything is booked. You can read more in our article on guided implant surgery.
Step 6: You Leave With a Clear Next Step
Before you go, you know:
- Which options suit your situation
- What the next step would be, if you choose to go ahead
- A treatment estimate, or what we need to finalize one
- Roughly how long the process could take for your case
There is no pressure to decide on the day. Many people take time to think, talk to family or check their insurance. You can call or email us with follow-up questions.
Questions Worth Asking
Here are questions we encourage you to ask at any implant consultation:
- Am I a candidate for implants? If not, why not?
- What are my options besides implants?
- Do I need any teeth removed or other treatment first?
- How will you plan the implant position?
- What does healing look like, and how long does it take?
- Will I have teeth during the healing period?
- What does maintenance involve after treatment?
- What does the estimate include, and what might change it?

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the implant consultation really free?
Yes. The consultation to discuss your goals and options is free. If you need imaging such as a CBCT scan, or treatment, we explain what it involves and give you an estimate before anything is booked.
Do I need a referral for an implant consultation?
No. You can call (519) 748-2524 or book online.
Will I get a CBCT scan at the consultation?
Not always. We first talk through your goals and examine your mouth. If implants look like a fit, we explain the CBCT scan, what it involves and what it costs.
Do I have to commit to treatment at the consultation?
No. Take your time. Many people go home, check their insurance and come back with questions.
What if I am not a candidate for implants?
We will explain why and talk about other options, such as a bridge or denture. Sometimes other treatment first can change what is possible.
